Art Portfolio Making

Every art college has its own specific portfolio requirements. Portfolio is created over period of time. It is a journey of growing designer or architect that depicts his/her potential. We help and guide students to develop & improve required skills to suit their desired field of study.

• Indian colleges : Usually required at second level of selection
• International colleges: Commonly required at first level of selection process

Time period required to make portfolio ranges from one month to two years.

What is Portfolio?

1. A portfolio is a collection of your best and most recent artwork that highlights your art experience. No matter how long you have been creating work, if you have a collection of your own art, then you have enough for a portfolio.

2. Art portfolio preparation in Fashion Design needs to demonstrate flair, innovation, something different; through idea development, mood board design, fashion illustration and a strong personal sense of design and style.

3. As a fashion designer or interior designer you must have sound contextual knowledge of fashion, and costume, historical and contemporary.

4. A portfolio is a visual archive of your artistic accomplishments that demonstrates your ability and potential as an artist. Students are encouraged to present a series of product design that represents current interests. Also, the portfolio should document additional work that demonstrates an awareness of formal visual organizational principles and experience with a variety of tools, media, styles, and approaches.

5. Every visual arts college has its own specific portfolio requirements. You should research the portfolio requirements for each school to which you are planning to apply.

Portfolio Requirements

1.An admissions portfolio for first year students should consist of 10 to 15 digital images of your best and most recent work. The work can demonstrate course assignments, product design, personal projects, or work experience.

2.Your portfolio should include a focused series of images that shows your current interests, and additional work that reveals an awareness of formal visual organizational principles and experience with a variety of tools, media, styles, and approaches.

3.We prefer that the majority of drawings submitted in the portfolio be derived from direct observation rather than other sources (such as photographs). Still life, landscape, figure drawings, portrait, perspective, and diagrammatic drawings are all recommended. Further two-, three-, or four-dimensional work may be abstract or representational and may range from design projects to fine art pieces or installation documentation or architecture design.

4.Every visual arts college has its own specific portfolio requirements. You should research the portfolio requirements for each school to which you are planning to apply.

How to Organize Your Portfolio

1.You should keep your portfolio in a professional three-ring binder.

2.Your portfolio should be no more than 25 pages. The shorter it is, the better it will be.

3.Make the layout and design consistent, and don’t get overly decorative-keep it clean and use lots of white space.

4.You may also consider including a disk or CD with samples of your work. An on-line portfolio is another option.

5.Once you have put together your portfolio, you should create a title page, table of contents, and introduction. The introduction is your opportunity to tie together your portfolio contents and summarize your qualifications.
